With the Data-Oriented Tech Stack (DOTS) there is now a different way to code in Unity which enables unprecedented levels of scale and performance. DOTS will revolutionize the way we make games in Unity, so join this Lab to be ready for it! In this Lab you are going to get a small taste of how to script in C# using Data-oriented principles, and of how to use the new Entity Component System (ECS) that is coming to Unity as part of DOTS. We will use a small game coded in regular C# MonoBehaviours, and we are going to convert the game to DOTS and swap the scripts with ECS Systems.
The Lab is 1-hour long, there will be three rounds at:
- 14.10 – 15.10
- 15:20 – 16.20
- 16:30 – 17.30
Entrance is free, but seats are limited so we recommend you to book your seat and to indicate a preferred time-slot.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Bring your own laptop (Windows or Mac) – preferably with a mouse – with already installed:
- The latest Unity 2019.3 (beta) – It’s very important you install this version, not 2019.2
- A code editor (Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code)
Knowledge required: having programmed game(s) of any size in Unity with C#.
