Self empowered teams and flat hierarchies are trending structures in tech companies and something many people strive to work in. While I don’t want to miss their benefits, I sometimes struggle to utilise the opportunities and freedom that this way of working provides. In this talk, I will showcase how these struggles correlate with the social capital we hold and the privileges we are granted within our work environment. I will explain the concepts of social capital and privilege and give examples of actions you can take daily to elevate the people around you by using your own social capital.
